Gypsy Journalista Premiere
When life gets to be “too much,” do you run not to the liquor store, but to puffy stickers? Are you exceptionally aroused by really good paper? Does holding a new Molie or a Hobo make you giddy, and have you ever thought about making a Fauxdori?
If so, you are a Journalista!
For some people it’s porn, for others food or designer clothing, but what gets me hot and bothered is stationery.
Planners used to mean those black vinyl corporate books my dad kept on his desk to track work appointments and bills, and even though I have been a disorganized slacker all of my life, nothing about that sterile masculine book made me want to buy one or spend any time writing in it – that is, until Pinterest.
For me, It happened the day I found photos of a hot pink Filofax planner. I was living in the basement apartment of my best friend Carol and immediately ran upstairs and said, “I gotta show you this.” Carol, who has a room in her house practically dedicated to scrapbook paper, *gets* my stationery fetish. I took control of her iMac and showed her my discovery.
The best thing about the internet is not cats wearing wigs or penguins that walk to the fish market, although those are pretty darn close. The BEST thing about the internet is Japanese and Korean Kawaii culture with their love for turning every single thing into something STUPID CUTE.
Kawaii stationery supplies (and OMG craft spaces) are like giving a ten-year-old girl from the suburbs a platinum card and telling her to decorate her dream room. Maybe it’s a direct result for how shitty the world is to women and a response to the glass ceiling or rape culture and no one wants to be a grown up anymore, but woohoo, I don’t care. I want unicorns puking rainbows and I want them now.
Never underestimate the healing powers of a room overflowing with pink and unicorns. Check out this brave Kawaii girl.
But, don’t think you can tell a lot about a girl by the type of journal she keeps. If she is a true Journalista, she will want ALL the journals and ALL the planners and probably will make a few DIY ones as well or at least have videos saved for a day when she will do it.
So, I give to you my blog dedicated to keeping a journal / planner. I am also a granny crochet quilt cuddling, boho crafty decor loving Gypsy, so there will be a lot of that here, too.
